How do you mulch around your plants? Mulch is important to keep the weeds down, prevent erosion of your good garden soil, and help keep the soil moist. At the Chicken Coop our favorite mulch is shredded leaf mulch. Partially decayed shredded leaf mulch is even better!
Here is how we do it:
Collect your leaves in the fall and place them in a leaf corral. Or a pile, or whatever works for you to keep them safe till spring!
Next, break out your old push mower with a bagger. Spread the leaves and run them over. This is also a great workout!
Finally, spread them around the base of your plants for a mulch that will slowly break down and add more nutrients to your soil!!
Have fun in the dirt!!!
